Our Review
4/5 STARS!

I really enjoyed Never Close enough. I found the characters Ella and Porter, to be entertaining. Anie Michaels was able to take an unusual situation and develop a beautiful love story.

Here is a recap of Never Close Enough

Ella was planning on going away with her boyfriend Kyle, to spend the week at a beautiful vacation home on the beach in Lincoln City, to celebrate Ella's birthday. However little did Ella know that coming home early the day that her and Kyle were supposed to depart on their week long getaway, she would find Kyle in bed with another woman. For some reason Ella did not feel compelled to confront the situation right away, so she took it upon herself and grabbed her luggage beside the door and took off. She thought that she might as well go ahead and enjoy the vacation on her own. On her way to the vacation home she decided to stop in at a local bar within the area. Once she was inside the bar she quickly made small talk with the owner Tilly Masters. Ella told Tilly everything that happened between her and Kyle. After a while she decided that she was ready to head to the vacation home, but a dead battery leaves her stranded. Ella goes back into the bar and Tilly volunteers her son Porter to help Ella get home. Porter is annoyed at this point because he feels that it is his duty to please his mother, but he is tired of her trying to play match maker. Porter drives Ella to the house and the drive is quite uncomfortable. When Porter is not scolding Ella for her careless actions, there is an eerie silence in the cab. Porter cannot ignore that there is just something about Ella that makes him want to protect her. He tries to ignore it, but he just can't. Ella is feeling the same, but is chastising herself because she should be mourning the loss of her boyfriend of 4 years. Porter offers to drive Ella back to the bar in the morning to jump her car, but she declines. All that night Ella cannot rid Porter from her mind. He got to her and she got to him.

Ella wakes up determined to enjoy the day and make the best out of her vacation. She is walking along the beach and as she approaches the house, she spots Porter on the porch. Ella doesn't know what to think, but this time she accepts the ride and the help. After that, Porter asks Ella to meet him at the bar for drinks. They do, but she cannot help the nagging feeling that she is doing something wrong because she just broke up with her boyfriend less than 24 hours ago. Shouldn't she be distraught? It is obvious to her that she has an undeniable attraction to Porter and the feeling is mutual. However the issue here is how much is Ella willing to let go in order to avoid a potential heart break? Is Ella willing to accept that in order for her to realize what true love is, she had to waste 4 years of her life with the wrong man? Also, can true love withstand a long term relationship? You must read Never Close Enough in order to find out! The last 50% of this novel was my favorite. It is pure raw emotion that signifies that true love is not measured by how long a relationship has lasted, but about how your heart feels about someone. It was beautiful to see the growth between Ella and Porter.

Please note that this novel has a HUGE plot twist and ends with a HUGE, HUGE cliffhanger! You will not see this coming, I assure you! I was left speechless and heartbroken. Get ready!
