Two
simple words sent Seth’s world crashing down around him. He’s gone.
The
truth begins to unravel as Seth and Dawson discover just how deep Richard's
betrayal went. With the help of Detective Sterling, they race to stop the
monster that destroyed their pasts. Together they find that family isn’t always
blood, but rather a dysfunctional mesh of unexpected friends.
With
Ava gone, Seth struggles to get back the woman he loves. Will he be able to
keep his promise to stop James from destroying their futures? Or will he lose
his grip on reality, setting off a chain reaction?
Sometimes,
in order to move forward from the wake of a disaster, you have to take two
steps back.

Excerpt:
“I’m
not afraid of you, James. I never will be.”
“I
don’t give a damn if you’re afraid or not. It’s not about fear. It’s about
obedience. It’s about me taking control of the situation or providing
consequences. You fall to my punishment if you don’t do what I ask. Plain and
simple.”
“Because
that doesn’t sound narcissistic and completely perverted. Is that why you
obsess over Ava? Because you need to prove you’re not a fucking fairy?” I spit
back.
“You
know what I’m capable of, Seth. Don’t waste anyone’s time or safety trying to
be the hero you’re not.”
“Neither
are you. You’re the piece of shit that goes down in the end. I will spend every
waking moment figuring out how to take you down. You think you’re getting
anything from me? Think again. Stay away from Jenny.”
“Or
else what?” he asked, his laughter fueling my anger.
“Or
else I’ll fucking kill you myself. I will hunt you down like the beast you are
and rip your heart straight from your chest. I’m not falling for your little
games. You can’t touch me, and that thought shatters that inflated ego of
yours. I dare you to try something, James. I’m begging you to.”
His
silence revealed my small victory. I didn’t know what had come over me, but he
brought out a side of me I hadn’t seen in quite some time.
“You’ll
regret your tone with me soon.” He hung up.
I
forced my fist against the steering wheel, causing the horn to startle me and a
weary-looking Jenny as she walked through her door into my view.
I
gave her an “I’m sorry” look and got out of the car. I walked up to her,
grabbing her bag and taking it to her trunk.
“What
was that all about?” she asked.
“I
just got a phone call from James.”
“And?”
“And
nothing. We’ll talk about it when we get back to my house. Just follow me,” I
said.
“Hold
on. I left my keys on the counter.”
I
got back into my car as she ran back inside. A few seconds later, her car
exploded with a violent bang and my ears began to ring. Smoke filled the sky,
and orange and yellow light danced in the darkness.
“Seth!”
