This
companion was written to explore the thoughts and motivations of
Anthony Rawlings, the man behind the consequences. It was not intended
as a total rewrite of Consequences, but meant to enhance the reader’s
understanding.

the novel Consequences, as experienced from Anthony’s point of view. It
also contains never before read, behind the scenes information, as well
as, a glossary of the characters and a timeline devoted to the events
within Consequences.
BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES
is a dark journey into the mind of the man who believes that he
controls everything and controls nothing. Because there is more to learn
about a man who:
Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he
knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very
important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an
acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an
agreement to acquire a soul.
—Aleatha Romig CONVICTED
It was a long and painful acquisition—especially from Behind His Eyes!

The
beginning of the end...coffee? - January 2012
(Consequences—Chapter 46)
When Tony crawled back into his bed, he slid behind
Claire’s sleeping body and wrapped her in his arms. She fit perfectly as he was
drawn to her radiating warmth. Gently kissing her hair, he tasted her perfume
as his hands wandered her curves, caressing her soft skin. Her soft murmurs
filled his heart with hope as she settled into his embrace. Smiling, Tony
imagined that in a few days he’d have his wife on a sunny beach with nothing
more than a bikini—maybe not even that. Those images and more filled his mind
as he drifted off to sleep.
When he woke, Tony lingered longer than usual in the
warmth of their bed. Being much too early for Claire to wake, he lifted his
head, rested it on his elbow, and watched her sleep. Her lightened hair covered
her pillow as renegade strands crisscrossed her exposed cheek. Along with her
exposed face, one bare shoulder was visible above the mound of luxurious
blankets. Tony leaned closer, kissed her forehead, and watched in amusement as
her nose wrinkled. Lightly, he kissed her again. This time he was rewarded with
the most beautiful moan as she stretched and turned toward him. Although Claire
was still sound asleep, she subconsciously responded to his touch. He wanted to
wake her, but he feared that if her warm soft skin touched his and they
connected their bodies, as they’d been connected the night before, he wouldn’t
be able to carry out his plan.
Brushing the strands of blonde from her face, he
whispered, “You don’t need to wake, yet.” When she didn’t respond and he was
confident of her sleeping, he added, “You have a big day, my dear. You need
your rest. Tonight we’ll celebrate.”
Throughout Tony’s morning routine, he avoided thoughts of
Claire’s impending examination. To him it was merely a formality—the final
signature on their life long contract. The deal was already complete; she
belonged to him—she wouldn’t disappoint.
She knew better; because, if she did, he’d promised
consequences. And Anthony Rawlings was a man of his word.
Our Review of Behind His Eyes ~ Consequences
** WARNING!! Before you proceed please know that this review may contain spoilers to those who have not read the complete Consequences Series, read at your own discretion.***
This is the moment that all Consequences fans have been
waiting for…
Finally, we are able to get a glimpse of behind Anthony
Rawlings eyes! I want to start out by saying that Behind His Eyes Consequences
was intense. All those moments when you were reading Consequences that made you
think what the hell is going through Anthony’s mind? Why would he do that?
Well, I am confident and pleased to say that all your answers are in this book.
Behind His Eyes Consequences highlights all the important and crucial parts
that took place in Consequences and gives you an in-depth view into the mind of
Anthony Rawlings…the man that you love to hate.
I am not ashamed to admit that when I was reading most of
The Consequences series I was struggling with an internal battle. One minute I
despised Tony and the next I loved him. However I would have never thought in a
million years that in the end I wanted them to be together. I always knew that
in the twisted mind of Anthony Rawlings there was justification for his actions
and in Behind His Eyes Consequences allowed you the opportunity to finally see
things from his perspective and honestly, it made me feel bad for Tony and the
internal battle he was going through. It reminded me of a struggle that he was
striving to overcome. Anthony made a promise to his grandfather and to
Catherine and as well all know, Tony is a man of his word. He had obligations
to uphold and follow through with. Tony and Catherine worked for years to
getting everything into place to once and for all avenge every soul who reaped
havoc on Nathaniel Rawl’s life. However on the other hand, Anthony was experiencing
new unfamiliar feelings caused by a woman whom was only supposed to be his
acquisition.
It seemed to me like Anthony felt that he needed to continue
putting Claire through countless tests in order to prove her honor, commitment,
and trust. In way I felt that it made Tony feel more at ease for drifting away
from the original plan he and Catherine had for Claire. I also think that even
though Tony knew he loved Claire he could not silence the feeling of deceiving
his grandfather by falling in love with a relative of an enemy. If Claire
passed one more test, then it would be okay to be with her forever, if not then
he would follow through and have her suffer the ultimate consequence. I could tell that Tony hoped that he did not
have to punish Claire, but if he did not then he would be breaking his promise
that he made to Nathaniel. As much as he wanted to love Claire there was
something always holding him back. As much as Tony tried to control it, he just
couldn’t expose those feelings.
A great example is when the story tells “the accident” from
Tony’s perspective. He thought by loving and trusting Claire caused negative consequences
upon him therefore, Tony had to show Claire the consequences for her actions.
As much as he wanted to believe that Claire was innocent and that it was all a
big misunderstanding, he could not allow himself to believe it when in fact it
was a big misunderstanding.
I think Tony’s major problem was since Claire was a Nichols
it was ingrained into his mind that no positive consequences could come from
anyone within that bloodline. Little did he know that he would in fact fall in
love with someone within the Nichols family. Tony just felt that even though he
thought that Claire was genuine, trustworthy, and loyal he had to keep testing
her to prove to himself that not everyone in the Nichols family is out to bring
down his empire. Honestly, it is really hard to pinpoint exactly what causes
Tony to behave and think the way he does. You can tell that Tony feels that he
needs to put the promise he made to his grandfather before his wants and
desires. However in the end when he proposes to Claire and marries her you can
see that Tony finally puts aside the vendetta and does what he wants to do, but
he tries to convince himself and Catherine that it is was according to plan. I
don’t believe that.
Tony did not take Claire from Atlanta with the intent of
falling in love with her or marrying her. Tony took Claire with the intent of
seeking revenge. Along the way Claire got to him. He let her in. He found
himself thinking of her when she was not around and not in the form of avenging
his enemy, but in a way of being with her. He did fall in love. These
unexpected feeling were new and he did not know how to deal with them and to
explain this change of course to Catherine. Could he deceive Catherine?
Catherine has always been there for him and he has always been there for
her….ever since he was originally known as Anton. What threw me off is his
choice to follow through with the final test. I thought that after the accident
Tony finally realized how committed Claire is to Tony, but I think what
encouraged him to pursue the final test was his internal struggle of justifying
what he wants in comparison to what he promised. If Claire passed the test,
then Tony would once and for all succumb to his real feelings, but if Claire
failed the test, then he would follow through with his original promise. You
can see how badly the outcome affected Tony. By Tony drinking the poisoned the
coffee was his consequence for trusting that Claire would pass the test and
what happened to Claire was her consequence for failing the final test. This
was a consequence that Tony did not want to pursue, but he is a man of his word
after all and every action has consequences.
Also, I have to say this before I finish up. I am going off
of a hunch here, but I can’t help but think that Catherine has been playing
Tony since the very beginning. She had Tony severely fooled. She played her
part so well. I never realized the influence that Catherine had over Tony until
reading this book. It really makes me despise her even more because I feel that
all along Catherine had an alternative plan for both Tony and Claire from the
very beginning. I believe that Catherine knew that Tony would fall in love with
Claire which is why she developed her own revenge that would cause vengeance on
all the people who deceived Nathaniel including Tony because he was the son of
the very man that ensured that Catherine would lose the Rawls name. Catherine
used Tony’s weakness (Claire) to devise her ultimate plan. If I am right, then
I regret having such hatred feelings towards Tony when I read Consequences. Due
to fully trusting one person has given Catherine the ability to manipulate his
actions and feelings…which is what she wanted to do all along and Tony played
into it. All in all, Tony was Catherine’s pawn in this game of chess.
Ultimately, Behind His Eyes Consequences is an amazing read.
I highly recommend this companion to anyone who has read The Consequences
Series. I assure you that many you’re your questions will be answered! I am
already anxiously awaiting Behind His Eyes Truth!

Ask Aleatha
1.
Is
BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES a standalone book?
No. Truthfully, if you only read BEHIND HIS
EYES CONSEQUENCES it would not make sense. It is only 62,000 words, as opposed
to CONSEQUENCES which was 167,000 words. This is a reading companion. I don’t
recommend reading it until you have completed the entire CONSEQUENCES SERIES.
If you would read it directly after CONSEQUENCES some of the surprises in TRUTH
would be revealed.
2. What
is something that we don’t know about your books?
I have made an effort to include all of my children’s
and my niece and nephew’s names in my books. In most cases they aren’t the main
characters. (I have no relatives named Claire or Anthony) However, beginning in
Truth I slipped their names in as tertiary characters. In some cases I used a
first name as a last name. BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES contains a glossary of
characters. That glossary will grow with each reading companion.
3. What
are your plans after you release all of the BEHIND HIS EYES reading companions?
I want to write a new series. I don’t know
for sure if it will be two books or more. I want to develop a relationship with
new characters and create new twists and turns. I have some notes and some
ideas, but I’ll be honest, Anthony Rawlings is not an easy character to let go.
However, I believe it is time.
I’ve been asked if I’ll ever write more about
them. My answer is “I don’t know.” I can’t say NEVER, but I believe it is time
to move on.
