PERFECTLY DAMAGED is now LIVE!
Schizoaffective disorder: a mental illness in
which a person experiences a combination of mood disorder and schizophrenia
symptoms.
I know about this illness—very well—because I
suffer from it. It’s been four years since my diagnosis, and ever since, I’ve
been living in a dark hole. Voices constantly invading my thoughts.
Hallucinations. All of which force me to question if what I’m experiencing is
even reality.
But here I am, still hanging on,
still breathing and living through it.
That is,
until he stumbled into my life. Logan Reed. I don’t want any part of him. I’ve
pushed him away, but he isn’t easily deterred. I’ve told him I’m different, but
he doesn’t care. He’s trying to slowly break me down. I’m trying just as hard
not to let him. He doesn’t know how truly damaged I am; what will happen when
he does?
I know the truth—he’ll never be able to
look at me the same way again. Just like everybody
else.
OUR REVIEW:
My blog is lucky enough to be a part of the blog tour for Perfectly
Damaged and as soon as I received an ARC I dived right in. The synopsis
had me intrigued from the start and couldn't finish fast enough! I am
saddened to admit that Perfectly Damaged is the first novel I have read
that is written by E.L. Montes. I am officially a HUGE fan now!
Here are my initial thoughts:
I
felt that E.L. Montes broached a brave topic and portrayed the
condition perfectly. The author incorporated the manifestations of the
condition in an appropriate way. I really felt that I was in the mind of
an individual who is suffering from Schizoaffective disorder. I was
able to get a glimpse of what it is like to live with the condition. I
really enjoy reading stories where a character has a unique
characteristic about them. It makes me think what is "normal" anyway?
Just because someone suffers from a health condition does not mean that
they are not entitled to be loved and to find love. I found this story
compelling, insightful, realistic, and beautifully written. Overall, the
story was executed perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone. This
is definitely a novel I would love to have in my paperback collection.
About the story:
The
storyline of Perfectly Damaged was unpredictable which kept me
intrigued. I was eager to learn just what it is like to suffer from a
mental illness. In this case we meet Jenna, she was diagnosed with
Schizoaffective disorder four years ago, and since then she has been
battling to find her normal ground. Jenna is currently suffering from
the common symptoms of Schizoaffective disorder: hearing voices in her
head that try to control her thoughts and actions, as well as,
hallucinations. In the midst of everything Jenna is strongly to cope and
live with the disorder, but hut first she must conquer the triggers
that worsen the condition. As a result of her condition Jenna has become
a recluse. That was until she met Logan.
Logan is a part of the
team that was hired by Jenna's mother to build a guest house. After
Logan having an unexpected encounter with Jenna he became intrigued.
Something inside of him that he could not explain drew him to her. He
knew that there was something about Jenna that didn't compare to just
any girl. She was special and felt the need to cherish her, if only he
can admit that to himself first.
Jenna on the other hand, was
not interested in love or finding love. She was not ready to divulge her
secrets to anyone especially a guy whom she did not trust. One thing
that both Jenna and Logan have in common is that they are both drawn to
each other. No matter how much Jenna views herself as undeserving for
love, she cannot fight these feelings. Her biggest struggle is knowing
that one day she will have to share her story and she cannot even begin
to broach that topic.
This story shows that anyone can find love
and deserves to. No matter if someone is suffering from a condition
there is someone for everyone. I must emphasize that this story has so
much more depth that I feel that I am downplaying its significance. This
is not just a typical story of a girl meeting a boy and living their
HEA. I cannot go into too much detail without spoiling the story. All I
can say is trust me on this one, it is worth the read! It is by far one
of the best novel's that I have read that accurately portrays a mental
illness, but in a tasteful, informative way.
